The Matt Parker Trio with Special Guest Pianist Richard X Bennett
Middletown, CT – Saxophonist Matt Parker is set to bring his dynamic trio with Special Guest Pianist Richard X Bennett to The Buttonwood Tree on April 12, 2025, for an evening of expressive and boundary-pushing jazz. This performance will showcase the extraordinary talents of Bennett, bassist Matt Dwonszyk, and drummer Akin Hobson, making for an electrifying night of music. The concert will feature selections from Parker and Bennett’s collaborative album, Parker Plays X, released on BYNK Records.
Parker has been lauded for his innovative approach to jazz and improvisation. His career has spanned multiple genres and collaborations, including work with leading artists such as Postmodern Jukebox, Maynard Ferguson, and Hess Is More. His compositions and performances have been featured in major motion pictures and award-winning theater productions. Now based in Connecticut, Parker continues to explore new sonic landscapes, blending tradition with modern expression.
Richard X Bennett, known for his compelling and groove-driven piano work, has released over 18 albums as a bandleader. His signature style, which blends New Orleans blues, Indian raga, and contemporary jazz, makes him a captivating performer and a perfect counterpart to Parker’s adventurous saxophone explorations. Together, their album Parker Plays X takes listeners on a bold and unpredictable musical journey, filled with rhythmic interplay, deep lyricism, and electrifying improvisation.
Joining them on stage will be Connecticut’s own Matt Dwonszyk, a first-call bassist all over the East Coast jazz scene, and Akin Hobson, a young powerhouse drummer known for his dynamic versatility and expressive playing. Their combined synergy promises an unforgettable night of music.
