Christie Echols is a performer, composer, and creative artist whose work highlights complexities of contemporary performance through the mediums of upright and electric bass, vocals, electronics, film, poetry, theater, and dance. Their music encompasses elements of free improvisation, singer-songwriter, avant-garde, EDM, jazz, contemporary classical, ambient, and funk to create versatile performances of unconstrained artistry and diverse timbres.

As a composer, Echols is a frequent performer of her own electroacoustic works. Her latest project in collaboration with poet Luisa Caycedo-Kimura, The Modification of Oneself: for bass, vocals, electronics, and multimedia (2022), is a solo performance in eight movements that analyzes the process of self-alteration in individual values, identity, and beliefs. Intrigued by the metamorphosis that progressively occurs within people, this performance piece focuses solely on the change of a single character and showcases an eclectic mixture of musical styles, choreography, theatrics, video, and audience participation.
